発明の概要(英語) Provided is an actuator which can flexibly and softly move like a muscle and maintain a stable operation for a long period of time. Moreover, the actuator can generate a strong drive force and has a rapid input response, a preferable sensitivity, and a high energy conversion efficiency. The actuator can be accurately controlled. A magnetic elastomer is prepared by mixing a powder-state ferromagnetic material or a highly-permeable material with an elastomer. A coil is embedded in the magnetic elastomer in such a manner that the coil can be electrically connected. When the coil is electrically connected, a magnetic field is generated in the coil and around the coil. The magnetic field penetrates the magnetic elastomer. When a magnetic field is generated in the magnetic elastomer, magnetic forces acting on the respective portions in the magnetic elastomer deform the shape of the magnetic elastomer. This generates a drive force.
