発明の概要(英語) A gas sensitive material comprising microcrystalline selenium (preferably selenium nanowires), and a gas sensor having an element structure wherein said gas sensitive material is positioned between two electrodes. Microcrystalline selenium, which can be easily produced and is less expensive, has a cost advantage compared with gas sensitive materials used in the conventional gas sensors. In addition, microcrystalline selenium responds to organic gas molecules at a high sensitivity at room temperature without being affected by moisture. Moreover, microcrystalline selenium shows a change of different magnitude in the value of current, that flows under a definite voltage, depending on the kind of an organic gas perceived thereby, which makes it possible to determine the kind of an organic gas based on the magnitude of the change.
