発明の概要(英語) Disclosed is a novel lectin which can bind specifically to a fucose .alpha.1-->6 sugar chain. Also disclosed is use of the lectin. Specifically disclosed is a fucose .alpha.1-->6-specific lectin characterized by the following properties (1) to (3): (1) the lectin can be extracted from a basidiomycete or an ascomycete; (2) the lectin has a molecular weight of 4,000 to 40,000 as measured by an SDS electrophoresis method; and (3) the lectin has affinity for a fucose .alpha.1-->6 sugar chain at a binding constant of 1.0 * 104 M-1 or more (at 25 deg.C). The fucose .alpha.1-->6-specific lectin can be used for detecting a fucose .alpha.1-->6 sugar chain specifically, and is effective for the purification of a fucose .alpha.1-->6 sugar chain or a non-fucose .alpha.1-->6 sugar chain.
