発明の概要(英語) Disclosed is a catalyst for living radical polymerization which is inexpensive, has high activity, is environmentally friendly, and requires no radical initiator. An organic compound having a redox ability is used as the catalyst for living radical polymerization. If this catalyst is used, even when a radical initiator such as an organic peroxide or a diazo compound is not used, a polymer having a narrow molecular weight distribution can be obtained by subjecting a monomer having a radical-reactive unsaturated bond to a radical polymerization reaction, and therefore, the cost of living radical polymerization can be drastically reduced and also adverse effects (such as a decrease in yield) of use of a radical initiator can be prevented. The invention has advantages as follows: the catalyst has low toxicity; the amount of the catalyst used is low; the catalyst has high solubility; the reaction conditions for the catalyst are mild; the catalyst is colorless and odorless (a post-treatment for a molded product is not required), etc., and is far more environmentally friendly and profitable than conventional living radical polymerization methods.
