Synthesis method for carbon nanotubes arranged in high orientation made from organic liquid and synthesis apparatus for the same
A method for mass-synthesizing carbon nanotubes low-costly, an apparatus using the method and carbon nanotubes firmly fixed on a substrate arranged in high density and high orientation are provided. The carbon nanotubes arranged in high orientation are synthesized from an organic liquid by the method including the steps of: depositing a film of a metal element on a substrate
exposing the substrate (3) with the film deposited thereon in hydrogen plasma
and immersing the substrate (3) which has already exposed to the hydrogen plasma into an organic liquid (10) and heating the substrate (3) up to a fixed temperature to conduct a synthesis process. The apparatus has: a water-cooling means (2) disposed outside a liquid tank (1) for cooling the liquid tank (1)
a substrate holder (5) for holding the substrate (3) having an electrode (4) for supplying current to the substrate (3)
a condensing means (7) comprised of a water-cooling pipe (6) provided for cooling the vapor of the organic liquid (10) evaporated from the liquid tank (1) so that the vapor can be condensed and sent back to the liquid tank (1)
and a cover (9) for holding the substrate holder (5), the condensing means (7) and a valve (8) for introducing N2 gas, wherein the organic liquid (10) is held by the liquid tank (1) and the liquid tank (1) is closed up by the cover (9). Using this apparatus, carbon nanotubes can be mass-synthesized low-costly and safely, and a beam of carbon nanotubes arranged in high density and high orientation can be synthesized therefore can be easily used in any product no matter which form of the carbon nanotubes are needed.
