発明の概要(英語) The present invention addresses the problem of providing a birefringence measurement device that has a simple structure without a rotating mechanism and is capable of measuring the detailed two-dimensional distribution of the birefringence of an object of measurement in real time. A birefringence measurement device 1A according to the present invention is characterized by being provided with a light beam generation means 2 for generating a light beam L1, light beam irradiation means 3, 4, 5 for irradiating the light beam L1 onto an object of measurement 20 in a predetermined polarization state, an image-formation optical system 10 for forming the light beam L4 having passed through the object of measurement 20 into an image, a polarization grating 8 disposed within the image-formation optical system 10, an imaging means 12 for generating a brightness-and-darkness signal pertaining to the brightness and darkness of the image formed by the image-formation optical system 10, and an output means for outputting information that has been determined on the basis of the brightness-and-darkness signal and pertains to the phase difference of the light beam L4 resulting from the passing of the light beam through the object of measurement 20, and in that the imaging means 12 generates the brightness-and-darkness signal for at least one of the diffracted beams L7 from among the plurality of diffracted beams generated by the polarization grating 8.
