Quick Search
By inputting a search keyword into a search box, full text search toward the full content data of J-STORE is possible. In addition, by clicking a detail search button, detailed designation of search conditions such as an applicant is possible.

Detailed usage

When search is required using multiple words, please input the words by separating each word with a space, such as ‘ceramics strength.’ In this case, the data matching both of ‘ceramics’ and ‘strength’ are searched. For the detail of input methods for search term, please refer to the detail of Search Formula.

Wordplus
Wordplus is a function to search the inputted search term as well as its different notation(s), synonymous notation(s), and English translation. When a search term is inputted and a ‘search’ button is clicked, its different notation(s), synonymous notation(s), and English translation are displayed. When the word that is desired to be searched is clicked and the ‘search’ button is clicked again, the total of selected words can be searched.

Search results

Search results show the number of hits in each of the domestic (Japanese) and foreign patent data bases, and a list of several of the corresponding data.
By clicking on titles such as [Title of Invention], you can display the individual data.
Furthermore, if you click on the [Generate Patent Map] button, a patent map with the search results as its general population will be displayed. (However, only domestic (Japanese) unexamined patent applications are covered)
The search results are displayed by relevant number for each database, and the titles of several items for each database are displayed. When the title such as ‘Title of Invention,’ etc. is clicked, the display of individual data appears. In addition, it is also possible to advance to the list of each database, and display the total list of relevant data.

Detail of Search Formula

AND function

When ‘clone culture’ is inputted, the data that include both of ‘clone’ and ‘culture’ are searched. In place of space, both ‘AND’, ‘and’ and ‘&’ can be used. Both of ‘clone and culture’ and ‘clone & culture’ have the same meaning as ‘clone culture.’

OR function

When the data containing at least one word of ‘XXX’ or ‘YYY’ is searched, ‘OR’ or ‘or’ is used to separate the words ‘XXX’ and ‘YYY.’ When ‘protein (kana) OR protein (kanji character)’ is inputted, the data containing ‘protein (kana)’ or ‘protein (kanji character)’ are searched. ‘|’ can also be used in place of ‘OR.’

Priority order of conditions

It is impossible to set the priority order of conditions. ‘OR’ is always prioritized. When [ “degrading enzyme” protein (katakana) OR protein (kanji character) ] is imputed, the data including [ “degrading enzyme” ] and additionally including ‘protein (katakana)’ or ‘protein (kanji character)’ are searched.

Exclusion

The data that do not include a specified word are searched. This condition cannot be used alone, but can be used under multiple conditions. When [ structure -“protein structure” ] is inputted, the data that contain ‘structure’ and do not contain [ “protein structure” ] are searched.

Restriction of character type and length

In the data of J-STORE, in the case of alphanumeric characters, two-byte/one-byte and upper-case/lower-case characters can be used without discrimination. Among symbols, 10 symbols including ( ) _ @ - + % . & | are used without discrimination between two-byte and one-byte, but other symbols are discriminated between two-byte and one-byte. The length of search formula that can be inputted in J-STORE is 200 characters.

Phrase search

When data containing ‘space,’ ‘AND,’ and ‘OR’ in search terms are to be searched, the terms are searched by enclosing with double quotations. When [ “effect and cause” ] is inputted, the data containing the phrases of ‘effect and cause’ are searched. Without quotations, the data containing ‘effect’ and ‘cause’ are searched.

When ‘Search of Japanese Patents’ is selected among the global navigation on the top menu display of J-STORE, the search display of ‘Search of Japanese Patents’ is opened. By inputting a search keyword into a search box, full text search toward the Japanese patent data of J-STORE is possible. In addition, by clicking a detail search button, the detailed designation of search conditions such as applicant, data provider, or recording period is possible.

When the word(s) that is desired to be searched is clicked and the ‘search’ button is clicked again, the total of selected words can be searched.

By executing a search, the “Generate Patent Map” button and a list of the corresponding data will be displayed below the search box. If you press the [Generate Patent Map] button, you can display patent maps relevant to the search results. In the list, data such as the patent number, title of invention and data provider are displayed.
You can arrange the order of the data by clicking on the (up▲/ down▼) button and re-displaying the screen.
If you click on the page number, you can proceed to that specific page.

After displaying the detailed contents of the patent map selected from the list, and clicking the link, the patent map will be displayed in a PDF file. The patent map will be displayed in bar graph or bubble chart, etc.
If you click on a number in the bar graph or bubble chart, the corresponding patent list of that number will be displayed. In the list, the application number, name of invention and data provider, etc will be displayed.
You can arrange the order of the data by clicking on the (up▲/ down▼) button and re-displaying the screen.
If you click on the page number, you can proceed to that specific page.
By clicking on the name of the invention, the details of the data will be displayed.
If you click on the [Inquiry] button, an inquiry form to the data provider regarding the corresponding data will appear.

Search conditions

When “Search of International Patents” is selected among the global navigation on the top menu of J-STORE, the search display of ‘Search of International Patents’ is opened. By inputting a search keyword into a search box, full text search toward the international patent data of J-STORE is possible. In addition, by designating a data providing institute ‘Information Provider’ and the type of foreign application patent ‘Publication,’ the limiting of the data can be performed.

Detailed usage

When search is required using multiple words, please input the words by separating each word with a space, such as ‘DNA protein.’ In this case, the data matching both of ‘DNA’ and ‘protein’ are searched. For the detail of input methods for search term, please refer to the detail of Search Formula.

When a search term is inputted and a “search” button is clicked, its different notation(s), synonymous notation(s), and English translation are displayed. When the word(s) that is desired to be searched is clicked and the ‘search’ button is clicked again, the total of selected words can be searched.

For changing the sorting order of data, click ▲ ▼ buttons on the side of each item name of list title and make an image appear again. When the title of patent is clicked, the detail display of that data appears. When displayed page number is clicked that page appears.

Search of Patent Maps

If you select “Patent Map” from the Global Navigation in the top menu of J-STORE, it will lead you to the display of “Generate Patent Map” and “Patent Map Search”. “Generate Patent Map” and “Patent Map Search” are two different functions, so we will explain them separately.

Generate Patent Map

Conditions to Generate Patent Map

In "Generate Patent Map", you can visibly display the top 10 hits for each applicant, inventor, IPC or patent application year, on the condition that the search is made for only domestic (Japanese) unexamined patent applications.
From the pull-down menu, you can select one of the following conditions, which are: "Keyword", "Published Japanese Pat.", "Sci. & Tech. Commons", "Applicant", "IPC", "IPC main group", "FTerm". "Published Japanese Pat." and "Sci. & Tech. Commons" are both the general population of the created patent map. Other options such as "Keyword", "Applicant", "IPC", "IPC main group" or "Fterm" are ranking items covering all data. When selecting "Keyword", "Applicant", "IPC", "IPC main group" or "Fterm", you are required to specify the search condition of keywords, applicants, IPCs, IPC main group or Fterms.

Detailed Usage

a When creating the patent map by selecting types "Applicant", "IPC", "IPC main group" or "FTerm", choose applicants, IPCs, IPC main group or Fterms from the list.

When creating the patent map by selecting type “Keyword”, if you want to use multiple words as the creating condition enter the terms by separating them with a space as in “ceramics strength”. In this case a patent map which includes both the terms, “ceramics” and “strength” will be created. Details about how to enter search terms can be referred to at Details of Search Query.

Word Plus

Word Plus has the function of searching the allographs, heteronyms and synonyms of the search term including its English translations. In the case of creating a patent map, this function is only available when selecting “Keywords” from the pull-down menu.
After entering the search term and then clicking the “Word Plus” button, the allographs, heteronyms, synonyms and English translations of the search term will be shown.
If you click on a word that you want to include in the search, and then click the “Generate Patent Map” button, the map created will also include the selected term.

Results of the Generate Patent Map

By executing “Generate Patent Map”, the patent map of the specified condition will appear.

If you click on the number in the bar graph, a list of the patents corresponding to the bar graph will appear. In the list, the application number, name of invention and the data provider will be displayed.
You can arrange the order of the data by clicking on the (up▲/ down▼) button and re-displaying the screen.
If you click on the name of the invention, the details of the data will be displayed. If you click on the page number, you can proceed to that specific page.

The detail contents of the data selected from the list will be shown. If you click on the [Inquiry] button, an inquiry form to the data provider regarding the corresponding data will appear.

Search of Patent Maps

Search Conditions

In a patent map search, patent maps prepared beforehand by JST for domestic (Japanese) unexamined patent applications can be searched. By entering keywords in the retrieval box, you can search J-STORE’s patent map data (outline of patent map, keywords, etc.)
Furthermore, by clicking on the “detail search” button, the field, IPC, publication date, etc, which are the detailed search conditions of the corresponding patent map can be specified.

Detailed Usage

If you want to use multiple words in a search, enter the terms by separating them with a space as in “ceramics strength”. In this case, data which matches both the terms, “ceramics” and “strength” will be searched. Details about how to enter search terms can be referred to at Details of Search Query. Word Plus is a feature which searches the allographs, heteronyms and synonyms of the search term entered including its English translations.
By entering a search term and clicking the [search] button, the allographs, heteronyms and synonyms of the search term entered including its English translations will be displayed.
If you click the term that you wish to search and re-click the [search] button, a search will be executed which includes the term selected.

Once the search is executed, a list of the corresponding data will be displayed in the search box. In each list, the patent map code, field and patent map title will be displayed.
You can arrange the order of the data by clicking on the (up▲/down▼) button and re-displaying the screen. By clicking on the patent map title, the details of the data will be displayed. If you click on the page number, you can proceed to that specific page.

After displaying the detailed contents of the patent map selected from the list, and clicking the thumbnail size image, the patent map will be displayed in a PDF file. The patent map will be displayed in bar graph or bubble chart, etc.

If you click on a number in the bar graph or bubble chart, the corresponding patent list of that number will be displayed. In the list, the application number, name of invention and data provider, etc will be displayed.

Data during the latest one month
The posted date and the number of posted items for each database during the latest one month are displayed. When the number of items on the right-side of the posted date is clicked, the introduction page of the posted data on that posted date is shown.

Number of posted items

Number of posted items
The posted number for each database of J-STORE is shown on monthly basis. When the number of posted items is clicked, the list of posted data corresponding to the number of posted items is displayed.

When the ‘Inquiry” on the top and bottom link of the page is clicked, the ‘Inquiry form,’ which can send an inquiry mail on whole J-STORE, is displayed.

Inquiry on individual data

Inquiry on individual data
In the detailed display of each database, there is the display of inquiry site under the display of data. In the case of a data provider where inquiry form is available, ‘Inquiry form’ is displayed. When ‘Inquiry button’ is clicked, the data in the display can be asked.

Input in inquiry form

When the name and affiliated organization is inputted and a ‘transfer’ bottom is clicked, the confirmation before transfer appears. For the convenience of contact from JST, please input personal name, item name, mail address (E-mail), and contents without fail. When essential items are not inputted, the input becomes error.
