PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce damage of a structure to a minimum level by storing an elastic body in a rigidity body, and setting the breaking points thereof lower than an allowable lead of the structure in which a shock absorbing body is installed and the structure opposite thereto.
SOLUTION: A cloth-like body 5 of woven or nonwoven material is laminated and burried partially or wholly in an elastic material 4 in an alternate manner with the material 4 in the horizontal direction of an elastic body 3 to constitute the elastic body 3. Around the outer circumference of the body 3, a hollow rigid body 6 made of rigid material is arranged to constitute a shock absorbing body 11. A breaking load of the member 11 is set to be equal to or lower than the allowable load of a structure in which the shock absorbing body 11 is installed or a structure opposite thereto. With this constitution, the shock absorbing body 11 elastically deforms when subjected to an earthquake of allowable level while breaks when subjected to an earthquake of non-allowable level, and thereby the purpose is attained.
