PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain the subject mass excellent in moldability and antimicrobial activity by vaporizing water from the mixed aqueous solution of a water-soluble polymer and a polylysine compound to dry and solidify.
SOLUTION: The objective mass is obtained by mechanically mixing (A) a water-soluble polymer (e.g. wool keratin, silk fibroin, etc.), with (B) a polylysine compound of the formula H-(NH-CHR-CO)n-OH[R is CH2CH2CH2CH2 NH2; (n) is 10 or more] in the state of aqueous solution and then vaporizing water to dry and solidify. By varying the drying rate in the process of the above-stated evaporation, the masses in various forms of film, porous material, block, powder and gel are moldable. As the above-stated component A, the compound with the pH more than the isoelectric point of the polylysine compound in the state of aqueous solution is preferably used. Further, it is preferable that the component B is formulated in an amount of about 20 wt.% based on the objective mass.
