報告概要 本研究では位相観測のための百万ボルト干渉型電子顕微鏡、および、振幅観測のための原子位置指定トンネル分光(AST)装置の開発、および、それによる観測により新材料の設計への指導指針を得ることを目的とした。期間内に百万ボルト干渉型電子顕微鏡の開発を行い、現在までに電子顕微鏡における解像度の世界記録を達成した。これは、コヒーレントな電子源と従来の最高であった350キロボルトの加速電圧を大幅に向上できたためである。また、AST装置の開発を行い、250ミリケルビンまでの高いエネルギー分解能を有する装置で超伝導体内に含まれる不純物原子を個々に観測することに成功した。これら観測手段の威力を示す例として、超伝導体中を動くボルテックスのその場観測、ピニングセンターとの相互作用の可視化、超伝導エネルギーギャップスペクトルのピニングセンター付近での変化などの観測に成功したことを特筆することができる。また、酸化物超伝導体の臨界電流特性向上のための指導原理として、電磁気的異方性係数がその指針となることを、ユニバーサルなすケーリング則の成立より示した。
