極限環境状態における現象 超高純度ベースメタルの科学

報告名称 極限環境状態における現象 超高純度ベースメタルの科学
報告概要 本研究のねらいは,ベースメタルを超高純度化し,ベースメタルが持つ真の性質を解明することである。
この目的に沿って,鉄をはじめとするベースメタル,特に,純鉄および高Cr-Fe合金を対象に,超高真空技術を応用した超高純度化,含有する微量ガス成分不純物元素の定量分析および本性の解明研究等に取組んできた。
その結果,これらのベースメタルは,超高純度化することにより,従来の研究の延長線上では想像できない性質を示すことが明かになってきた。特に,純鉄は,99.995%以上に高純度化すると,機械的性質,化学的性質,結晶組織,相変態等が,常識とされていたものとは全く異なることが判明した。また,高純度化すると,従来は加工が困難であった高合金の製造が可能になることも判明した。その典型例が50~70%Cr-Fe合金で,機械加工が可能で,高温強度,耐食性等に優れた性質を示し,学問の分野だけでなく,新しい合金として産業界からも注目されている。
