Abstract Provided are a novel glucosyl-α-1,2-glycerol phosphorylase that makes it possible to mass-produce glucosyl-α-1,2-glycerol easily and selectively from inexpensive materials, and a method for producing glucosyl-α-1,2-glycerol using the same. According to the present invention, glucosyl-α-1,2-glycerol is mass-produced easily and selectively by (1) conducting an enzymatic reaction in a solution containing β-glucose 1-phosphate, glycerol, and glucosyl-α-1,2-glycerol phosphorylase or (2) conducting an enzymatic reaction in a solution containing a carbohydrate phosphorolytic enzyme that produces β-glucose 1-phosphate, and a sugar that serves as a substrate thereof, and glycerol, phosphoric acid, and glucosyl-α-1,2-glycerol phosphorylase.
