Abstract Provided is a mobility assistance device capable of traversing a step in a stable manner without compromising mobility on level ground. This mobility assistance device comprises: front wheels; rear wheels; drive wheels disposed between the front wheels and the rear wheels; first links connected to the front wheels; second links connecting the drive wheels and the rear wheels; a rotary joint connecting the first links and the second links at a first position; and a first elastic member connecting the first links and the second links at a second position different from the first position.
Outline of related art and contending technology BACKGROUND ART
There are a wide variety of mobility support devices that replace human ambulation. In particular, wheelchair is widely used as a device for supporting the movement of people with leg paralysis. Depending on the physical function of the user, there are a wheelchair such as manual, electric assist, or electric, but small wheels (in particular, small front wheels) are often employed so as not to interfere with the movement in a narrow aisle room or the loading and unloading of the transportation vehicle. Therefore, even a small step of approximately 5 cm may greatly impede movement.
In view of this, a configuration has been proposed in which the step breakthrough capability of the wheelchair is improved in particular. A configuration is known in which the movement of the center of gravity of the user on the device is utilized to float the front wheel to traverse the step (see, for example, Patent Document 1,2). In addition, a configuration has been proposed in which rear wheel supports are driven by an actuator to float the front wheels and prevent excessive rearward tilt of the wheelchair when the wheelchair traverses the step (for example, see Patent Document 3).
