Abstract

A manufacturing method of a crystal glass composite having light-emitting characteristics. This manufacturing method involves a melting step and a forming step. In the melting step, a mixture of powdery B2O3 and/or SiO2, SrO and Al2O3, and powdery Eu2O3 is stored in a melting furnace and the mixture is melted so as to become a mixed phase of solid and liquid phases. In the forming step, by cooling to or below the liquid phase glass transition point after the melting step, a crystal glass composite is formed comprising SrAl2O4 crystals to which Eu has been added, dispersed in a glass to which Eu has been added. Furthermore, in the melting step, the oxygen partial pressure in the atmosphere of the melting furnace is controlled in order to control both the valence of the Eu added to the glass, and the valence of Eu added to the SrAl2O4 crystals.
