Abstract It is possible to provide a high-speed object recognition process method in an object recognition process which extracts feature vectors from an image where an object is captured so as to expresses the object by a plenty of feature vectors and search an image database for an object whose features are matched. Provided is also a method for saving a memory capacity required for the image database. Suggested is a speed increasing method for a task for recognizing an object described by a plurality of feature vectors by the approximation nearest neighbor search. One of the speed increase methods is realized by discarding feature vectors when a plenty of feature vectors are present in the vicinity and a plenty of distance calculation are required. The other speed increase method is realized performs only voting by using the Hash table without performing any distance calculation. Moreover, identification devices based on the approximation nearest neighbor search are longitudinally connected in multiple stages so that the approximation degree used for the recognition is modified in accordance with the image, thereby significantly increasing the efficiency.
