Abstract Provided are an antenna device that performs beam scanning over a wider angle with a small configuration that can be integrated, and a radar apparatus using the same. The antenna device has a waveguide having an input end, and a first antenna and a second antenna that are connected to the waveguide. The first antenna receives at least one of a first signal that has been radiated from the first antenna, reflected externally, and returned, and a second signal that has been radiated from the second antenna, reflected externally, and returned, in a direction in which return light to the incident end is not generated in the first antenna, and combines the received signal and first reference light that is not radiated from the first antenna and remains in the first antenna.
Outline of related art and contending technology BACKGROUND ART
In recent years, radars using millimeter waves such as 76GHz band have rapidly been widely used, including on-vehicle applications. The millimeter wave radar can roughly detect the presence or absence of a vehicle or a person, but the accuracy of distance measurement is not so high. On the other hand, the laser radar using the light wave (near-infrared light) can measure the distance with high accuracy with a beam having strong directivity, but is susceptible to weather, shielding, etc.
By using the terahertz wave between the radio wave and the light wave, the object can be detected and discriminated with resolution higher than that of the millimeter wave by one digit or more, and the required antenna size can be reduced by one digit or more.
In order to realize terahertz radars, it is difficult to scan beams and to separate transmission and reception waves. The reason why beam scanning is difficult is that there is no phase shifter which is low in loss and can be integrated at present. It is difficult to separate transmission and reception waves because there is no circulator of low loss and high isolation at present time. A general-purpose terahertz radar has not yet been realized, and beam scanning is performed by mechanical driving in combination of large-scale optical systems and reflectors for the purpose of research and development.
In order to perform beam scanning without using a phase shifter or mechanical drive, a terahertz radar has been proposed that scans a beam in a constant angular range using a microstrip based leaky wave antenna (, see Non-Patent Document 1).
