発明の概要(英語) This optical see-through display 100 comprises a video-capture unit 110 and an optical shielding portion 120. The video-capture unit 110 includes a micro-display 112 which displays virtual video, and can control the depth position of the virtual video. The optical shielding portion 120 comprises: a relay lens optical system 122; a spatial light modulator (SLM) 124 positioned within the relay lens optical system 122, and an actuator 126 which shifts the spatial light modulator 124 in the axial direction of the relay lens optical system 122 in response to the depth position of the virtual video.
従来技術、競合技術の概要(英語) BACKGROUND ART
In recent years, expectation for augmented reality (Augmented Reality , AR) has been increasing, and development of a head-mounted display (HMD: Head Mount Display), which is a key device for the augmented reality (Augmented Reality , AR), has been progressed. The HMD can superimpose and display the image and information of the virtual world (extended world) on the background of the real world.
HMD is largely divided into a video see-through type (VST: Video-see Through) type and an optical see-through type (OST: Optical-see Through) type. In the VST type, a video image of the real world is converted into digital image data by a camera, image data of the virtual world is synthesized by signal processing, and displayed on a display.
In the OST type, the image of the real world is optically synthesized while presenting the image of the real world to the user as it is. Fig. 1 (a) is a diagram showing the principle of conventional OST-HMD. OST-HMD2 includes a micro display 4 for presenting an image of the virtual world, and an optical system 6 for superimposing background light S1 of the real world on light S2 of the micro display 4. In the example of Fig. 1 (a), the optical system 6 is a half mirror.
In OST-HMD of Fig. 1 (a), since the virtual image displayed by the micro display 4 is translucent, there is a problem of lack of reality and reality. In order to solve this problem, OST-HMD is proposed which realizes optical shielding (Optical Occlusion) for shielding light in the real environment of the field of view. Fig. 1 (b) is a diagram showing OST-HMD3 with an optical shield.
In this OST-HMD3, the spatial light modulator (SLM) 8 for optical shielding is inserted into the see-through path. Reference numeral SLM8 denotes an optical mask. The SLM8 and the microdisplay 4 are arranged so that a distance between the pupil and SLM is optically equal to a distance between the pupil and the microdisplay.
(Non-Patent Document 1) proposes OST-HMD capable of changing the depth (focal length) of the virtual image. In) referred to as a variable focus type OST-HMD, the optical system 6 in OST-HMD2 of Fig. 1 (a) is constituted by a deformable beam splitter. By changing the curvature of the beam splitter, the position of the virtual image of the virtual image displayed on the microdisplay can be moved in the depth direction.
