LIQUID CRYSTAL DISPLAY DEVICE USING NEMATIC LIQUID CRYSTAL
There is provided a liquid crystal display device using nematic liquid crystal of low power consumption having a memory characteristic which can easily be manufactured with a high yield. The liquid crystal display device using the nematic liquid crystal includes: a pair of substrates (1, 4) respectively having planar electrode layers (2, 5)
a liquid crystal layer arranged between the pair of substrates (1, 4)
and orientation layers (3, 6) arranged between the liquid crystal layer and at least one of the pair of substrates (1,4) and formed by a plurality of different orientation domains substantially vertical to the substrate surface and substantially horizontal to the substrate surface. The two states of the substantially vertical orientation state and the substantially horizontal orientation state are both stable and have memory characteristic when no electric field is applied.
