Title Metal oxide electrode catalyst
Abstract A corrosion-resistant electrode catalyst for oxygen reduction characterized by comprising a main catalyst formed of at least one transition metal oxide selected from oxygen deficiency-containing ZrO2, Ta2O5, Nb2O5, SnO2, TiO2, V2O5, MoO3, and WO3, and a co-catalyst of gold, the catalyst being adapted for use in contact with an acidic electrolyte at a potential which is at least 0.4 V higher than the reversible hydrogen electrode potential.
The catalyst may be used, for example, in such a form that fine particles of the transition metal oxide and gold, or fine particles comprising gold fine particles coated with the transition metal oxide are dispersed on a catalyst carrier which is an electron conductive powder.
This electrode catalyst is suitable as an electrode catalyst for an electrochemical system using an acidic electrolyte in the field of water electrolysis, inorganic or organic electrolysis, fuel cells and the like.

Scope of claims [claim1]
