CATALYST AND PROCESS FOR PRODUCTION THEREOF
Provided are: a catalyst which can be produced at a low cost and which comprises a desired metal supported on the surface of a ferroelectric body
and a process for producing the catalyst. A catalyst comprising a powdered ferroelectric body and a metal supported on the surface of the powdered ferroelectric body, wherein the metal is supported in such a manner that the distance between the surface of the ferroelectric body and the surface of the metal becomes 10 nm or less. The catalyst can be produced by supporting the metal on the surface of the ferroelectric body through a mixing step of mixing the powdered ferroelectric body with the powdered metal to produce a mixture and a firing step of firing the resulting mixture while stirring the mixture. Subsequent to the firing step, a portion of the metal which is not supported on the ferroelectric body is removed by dissolving the portion of the metal in an acidic solution or an alkaline solution in a washing step. In the washing step, a portion of the metal which is supported on the ferroelectric body is etched.
