Provided is a transmission period determination method, etc. capable of setting the transmission period (IPT transmission period) of periodic intermittent transmissions by using general-purpose wireless modules and existing drivers. A wireless communication system (1) is a wireless backhaul. A route is established from a core node (3) to a slave node (5). The core node (3) assigns a specified transmission period and transmits a plurality of training packets to the slave node (5). The slave node (5) transmits, to a transmission period determination device (7), the number (Num) of training packets received at the very beginning and the very end and the training packets received without duplication. An estimation unit (21) estimates a training time (T). The training time (T) is the time for the slave node (5) to receive the plurality of training packets. A calculation unit (23) calculates a training metric candidate from the ratio of T and Num. An update unit (25) compares the values of the current training metric to the values of the candidate training metric, and determines the IPT transmission period or alters the transmission period and conducts the processing again.
