Abstract

Provided is a carbon dioxide enrichment device whereby the energy needed during driving can be considerably reduced while high enrichment performance can also be achieved. A carbon enrichment device, comprising a gas diffusion electrode (1)

a gas diffusion electrode (2) disposed apart from the gas diffusion electrode (1)

an anion exchange membrane (5) positioned between the gas diffusion electrode (1) and the gas diffusion electrode (2)

and an electrolytic solution (3) present between the gas diffusion electrode (1) and the gas diffusion electrode (2) so as to be in contact with the gas diffusion electrode (1) and the gas diffusion electrode (2), and partitioned by the anion exchange membrane (5), is characterized in that the electrolytic solution (3) includes a solvent and a solute dissolved in the solvent, and in that, the solute being dissolved in the solvent and a dissolved inorganic carbon including at least one species from among carbonate, bicarbonate ion, and carbonate ion being generated, oxygen is consumed by an oxygen reduction reaction at the gas diffusion electrode (1), whereby: dissolved inorganic carbon is generated by dissolution of carbon dioxide into the solvent and by an ionization reaction

the dissolved inorganic carbon derived from the solute or the dissolved inorganic carbon generated at the gas diffusion electrode (1) is transported to the gas diffusion electrode (2) through the anion exchange membrane (5)

oxygen is generated from the solvent in the vicinity of the gas diffusion electrode (2) by an oxidation reaction of the solvent at the gas diffusion electrode (2)

and carbon dioxide is generated from the dissolved inorganic carbon.
