IMAGE PROCESSING METHOD AND APPARATUS
Provided are an image processing method and an image processing apparatus for achieving a dense shape measurement of an object moving at a high speed. An image processing method uses an image capturing apparatus to capture an image of a projection pattern, which is projected by a projecting apparatus onto an object to be observed and which comprises a periodic pattern, and performs a shape reconstruction from an input image including the projection pattern. The image processing method comprises the steps of: detecting, from an input image captured by the image capturing apparatus, a projection pattern projected by the projecting apparatus
detecting a relative phase of the detected projection pattern
and calculating the absolute phase of a reference position on the basis of a fact that a first condition is established for the pixels of the detected projection pattern, the first condition being that, assuming that the absolute phase of the detected projection pattern is represented by the sum of the relative phase from the reference position and the absolute phase of the reference position, depths, which are calculated from the absolute phases of a plurality of projection patterns, are coincident.
