Abstract

The volumetric expansion coefficient of latent heat storage materials, such as molten salts, is large when said materials are melted, resulting in difficulties with the structural design of devices or containers to be filled with such latent heat storage materials. This latent heat storage material is provided with an alloy comprising: Si and/or Bi

and one or a plurality of metallic elements selected from the group consisting of Mg, Al, Ti, Cr, Mn, Fe, Co, Ni, Cu, Zn, Pd, Ag, Au and Pb. When the alloy absorbs heat from the surroundings, the alloy changes from a solid phase to a liquid phase and stores the heat as latent heat. When the alloy releases the heat to the surroundings, the alloy changes from a liquid phase to a solid phase and releases the latent heat.
