Abstract

Provided is a compact solid-state laser device that is capable of highly efficiently generating a high-power laser of an arbitrary low-order mode (TEM00 or TEM01 mode, for example) without requiring a complicated optical excitation system. The solid-state laser device has: two reflective components (1a, 1b) that constitute a resonator

a flat plate-shaped gain medium (2) that is provided between the two reflective components (1a, 1b) and increases stimulated emission of light in the thickness direction

a donut-shaped or modified donut-shaped planar waveguide (3) that is positioned with the inner peripheral surface in contact with the outer peripheral surface of the flat plate-shaped gain medium (2)

and multiple excitation light sources (4a) that are arranged in five or more directions and connected to the outer peripheral surface of the donut-shaped or modified donut-shaped planar waveguide (3) so as to allow excitation light to be propagated from the outer peripheral surface of the donut-shaped or modified donut-shaped planar waveguide (3) to the flat plate-shaped gain medium (2).
