Abstract This intestinal microflora improving agent contains, as an active ingredient, galactosyl-β-1,4-rhamnose or an analog thereof, or pharmaceutically acceptable salts of these substances. A pharmaceutical composition for improving intestinal microflora contains the intestinal microflora improving agent and a pharmaceutically acceptable carrier and/or a diluent. A food/beverage includes the intestinal microflora improving agent. A method for promoting the proliferation of Bifidobacterium is a method for administering galactosyl β-1,4-rhamnose or an analog thereof, or pharmaceutically acceptable salts of these substances. A method for inhibiting the proliferation of Clostridium difficile is a method for administering galactosyl β-1,4-rhamnose or an analog thereof, or pharmaceutically acceptable salts of these substances, to a subject carrying Clostridium difficile.

 ガラクトシル-β-1,4-ラムノース若しくはその類縁体、又は、それらの薬学的に許容できる塩を投与するビフィズス菌の増殖促進方法。

[請求項5]
 増殖促進されるビフィズス菌がビフィドバクテリウム・インファンティスである請求項4に記載のビフィズス菌の増殖促進方法。

[請求項6]
 クロストリジウム・ディフィシルを保菌する被検体にガラクトシル-β-1,4-ラムノース若しくはその類縁体、又は、それらの薬学的に許容できる塩を投与するクロストリジウム・ディフィシルの増殖抑制方法。
