PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an apparatus for processing signals for forming radar images, capable of fixing an artificial target in a complicated natural background or detecting a target moving at a low speed and estimating its size, which have been difficult to detect with MTI technology, LOG-CFAR technology, etc., used by a conventional radar.
SOLUTION: The apparatus for processing the signals for forming the radar images comprises a phase-detecting circuit 5 for detecting the phases of reception signals, a phase distribution computing circuit 8 for computing spatial phase distribution from information on bearings and angles of elevation and distance information, a phase distribution converting circuit 9 for performing conversion into another distribution, such as a spatial frequency distribution different from the phase distribution, a correlation processing circuit 10 for obtaining distribution correlation values among small regions in the converted distribution, and a target detecting circuit 11 for detecting the target from the correlation differences between a natural object and an artificial object in the correlation values, and estimating the size of the target from the size of the same distribution shape in the vicinity of the detected target.
