PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a device and a method for dynamic wind tunnel testing in order to inhibit the deviation of a wind tunnel testing model from its wind tunnel measuring section, relax the limits to the test range, and minimize transient phenomena in transition to free flight mode.
SOLUTION: In the device, a shaft 2 and a lower supporting device 4 support a wind tunnel testing model 50 at the space of a measuring section 71 between a wind tunnel forward end 70 and a wind tunnel rear end 72. The model 50 is provided with a gimbal mechanism 1, supported by the shaft 2, made rotatable in each direction of roll R, pitch P or yaw Y, and also its position is restrained by the shaft 2, resulting in relaxation of the rotation simulated range. In transition to free flight, a cylinder is attached to the lower supporting device 4 and an initial condition is defined, then the operation of cylinder lowers the shaft 2 to convert the model 50 into free flight mode. Thus the transient phenomena generation after completion of the model control is reduced with no need of controlling the takeoff condition of the model 50.
