PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enable the down-sizing of an accelerator and the generation of an electron beam having a constant bunch electric current.
SOLUTION: The laser control type electron beam linear accelerator is constituted of a mode lock laser 11, a photo cathode high-frequency electron gun 12, an accelerating tube 14, a timing system 16, and a high-frequency source 15, and corrects energy expansion of a multi-bunch beam by beam loading while accelerating the beam by slightly shifting a phase of a frequency of the electron beam outputted from the high-frequency electron gun against a phase of an accelerating frequency by making the frequency of the mode lock laser, the frequency of the high frequency electron gun, and the accelerating frequency of the accelerating tube within a prescribed detuning range. In the accelerator, a laser pulse amplitude modulator 22 is installed between the mode lock laser and the high-frequency electron gun, and a high-frequency source 15 is constituted as the high-frequency source common in the high-frequency electron gun and the accelerating tube by making the frequency of the high-frequency electron gun coincident with the accelerating frequency of the accelerating tube.
