PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve wear resistance at the time of high speed traveling by impregnating pure copper into a carbon fired body having a specified composition and porosity.
SOLUTION: A carbon fired body having a structure that 3 to 15 wt.% artificial graphite is dispersed in the body of fired coke and having a porosity of 18 to 27% is obtained by first mixing pitch coke powder having an average particle size of 10 to 20 μm and artificial graphite powder having an average particle size of 10 to 30 μm in a prescribed ratio to obtain a mixed powder, then adding tar pitch in a prescribed ratio to the mixture in order to control the porosity of carbon fire body and to allow it to exhibit binding function, kneading the obtained mixture at 200 to 300°C for about 2 h, cooling the mixture to the room temp., then pulverizing and mixing, further press-forming the obtained powder under a pressure of 0.1 to 1 ton/cm2 and finally firing the formed material. The copper impregnated carbon fired body useful for a current collecting slider material and having resistivity of ≤1 μΩ.m is obtained by controlling the dimension of the carbon fired body mentioned above, introducing the carbon fired body into a furnace capable of impregnating under a reduced pressure, after reducing the pressure in the furnace to about 2 Torr, immersing the carbon fired body into the molten liquid of copper free from oxygen and being heated to about 1,200 °C, and impregnating copper into the carbon fired body by applying a pressure of about 130 atom.
