PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a manufacturing method which does not require a carbon nanotube growth device for allowing the carbon nanotubes to stand together in large numbers on the surface of a substrate, as a method of manufacturing a sliding member in which the carbon nanotubes are used as solid lubricant material.
SOLUTION: In the method of manufacturing the sliding member, a cathode made of a metal member serving as a base of the sliding member and an anode made of cobalt are immersed into an electroplating liquid in which the carbon nanofibers are dispersedly compounded and polyacrylic acid is added as a dispersant, a DC current is applied between the cathode and the anode and, thereby, a composite plated coating film which contains the carbon nanofibers in the inner part and on the surface is formed on the surface of the metal member.
