PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a wind tunnel testing device capable of precisely and readily measuring the aerodynamic characteristics of a rotating sphere.
SOLUTION: The wind tunnel testing device includes a sphere 60 partially or entirely made of a ferromagnetic body; magnetic field generation means 31-38, 41-46 for generating a magnetic field for magnetically lifting and rotating the sphere 60 in an air current blown out of the wind tunnel device; a control means for controlling the magnetic field generation means for changing the strength of the magnetic field generated by the magnetic field generation means; and displacement detection means 51, 52 for detecting the displacement of positions in the air current of the sphere 60. The control means controls the strength of the magnetic field, generated by the magnetic field generation means so that the displacement detected by the displacement detection means 51, 52 is canceled. In the wind tunnel testing device, the rotating sphere is supported in the air current, without contacts so that the aerodynamic force acts only on the sphere. The aerodynamic characteristics can be calculated from the change in the amount of control which is required for controlling the magnetic field generation means.
