PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To allow the temperature change of a DNA specimen (a reaction solution) to follow a predetermined temperature pattern in a PCR (polymerase chain reaction) method.
SOLUTION: A temperature element 61 includes: a pair of a p-type semiconductor 72P and an n-type semiconductor 72N arranged spaced from each other; a metal well 71 having a mounting part 81 for directly mounting a container of the DNA specimen, and joined to each of the p-type semiconductor 72P and n-type semiconductor 72N; an electrode-cum-radiating plate 73P which is joined to the p-type semiconductor 72P and to which voltage is applied by a temperature control part 62; and an electrode-cum-radiating plate 73N which is joined to the n-type semiconductor 72N and to which voltage is applied by the temperature control part 62. When different voltages are applied to the respective electrode-cum-radiating plates 73P, 73N by the temperature control part 62 to cause a potential difference between the p-type semiconductor 72P and the n-type semiconductor 72N, the metal well 71 allows an electric current to flow from one to the other of the p-type semiconductor 72P and n-type semiconductor 72N and propagates heat to produce a Peltier effect.
