PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a neutron detector having the same spatial resolution as a conventional neutron detector, with a less number of detection elements arranged in matrix.
SOLUTION: A neutron detector 100 includes; an X-coordinate detection element group comprising a plurality of parallelly-arranged first particle detection elements 1x made of a superconducting material whose electronic state changes upon receiving heat energy of one of at least two particles radiated in different directions by heat energy released from nuclear reactions of neutrons with a neutron detecting substance; and a Y-coordinate detection element group comprising a plurality of parallelly arranged second particle detection elements 1y made of a superconducting substance whose electronic state changes upon receiving heat energy of the other particle. An X coordinate of a position where the nuclear reaction occurred is identified based on detection of the first particle detection elements, and a Y coordinate of the position where the nuclear reaction occurred is identified based on detection of any of the second particle detection elements.
