PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a two-dimensional photonic crystal used for reducing changes in and improving efficiency of characteristics dependent on a wavelength of light and an incident angle or the like in an optical device such as a solar cell and a photosensor.
SOLUTION: The two-dimensional photonic crystal is composed by arranging, in a plate-like main body (photoelectric conversion layer 11), a different refractive index region 12 having a refractive index different from that of the main body at each lattice point of a two-dimensional lattice 16 parallel with the main body. Each of the different refractive index regions 12 is arranged in parallel with a two-dimensional lattice plane from each lattice point of the two-dimensional lattice 16, with being randomly deviated by only a deviation amount Δp equal to or smaller than the maximum deviation amount Δpmax(≠0). In the photoelectric conversion layer 11 including the two-dimensional photonic crystal structure, light absorption efficiency increases at a wavelength that is apart to some extent from a peak top of absorption efficiency at each wavelength, and thereby integral absorption efficiency across the whole of a specific wavelength band increases when Δpmax is equal to or less than a certain value. In addition, regardless of the Δpmax value, a change in the integral absorption efficiency by incident angle of light decreases.
