PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a proximity/contact sensor capable of highly accurately detecting a position of a measuring object while improving sensitivity in a Z-axis direction.
SOLUTION: The proximity/contact sensor includes: an X electrode layer 11 formed by arraying a plurality of first electrodes 22, each of which is formed by connecting rectangular first conductors 21 along one orthogonal line 21a, along the other orthogonal line 21b of the first conductor 21 by matching vertexes 21c, 21d connecting the other orthogonal line 21b; a Y electrode layer 12 formed by arraying a plurality of second electrodes 24, each of which is formed by connecting rectangular second conductors 23, so as to be matched with areas in which the first electrodes 21 are not arrayed; and a detection circuit for detecting electrostatic capacitance between the first conductors 21 and the second conductors 23 by a mutual capacitance measuring method. When the first electrodes 22 and the second electrodes 24 are physically divided into two sections and insulated around the orthogonal lines 21a, 23a and a proximity distance between the detection circuit and a measuring object is far, the two electrodes are electrically connected, and when the proximity distance is near, the two electrodes are respectively disconnected.
