PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a gas cell type atomic oscillator which can retain high frequency stability over a long period of time.
SOLUTION: An atomic oscillator is provided according to the present invention, which comprises: a first frequency synthesizer operable to multiply, by a first multiplication rate, reference frequency signals oscillated by a first voltage-control oscillator to synthesize first high-frequency signals; a first semiconductor laser operable to emit a first laser beam modulated by the first high-frequency signals; a second frequency synthesizer operable to multiply, by a second multiplication rate, output signals oscillated by a second voltage-control oscillator to synthesize second high-frequency signals; a second semiconductor laser operable to emit a second laser beam modulated by the second high-frequency signals; a gas cell on which the first and second laser beams are incident concurrently, and in which a gas of a first alkali metal atom, a gas of a second alkali metal atom, and a buffer gas are sealed; and a computer operable to set the first multiplication rate on the first frequency synthesizer.
