PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To compress data in a determined section by repeatedly applying initial state and a cell-automaton and to reproduce them by sending the initial state and the rule of the cell-automaton to each section, wherein amount of data are determined.
SOLUTION: Data are inputted from a data input line 14 and stored as the initial state in a storage device of a control computer 11. This initial state represents, for example, the start binary value of an original sound and is given by 16 digits, when a sound amplitude at discrete time is converted as 16-bit data. Then a rule number minimizing the error of converted data of the original sound and cell-automaton is obtained by full retrieval each time and regarded as the rule number of original sound regulation. For the improvement in fidelity of reproduction, a threshold is provided for the error of the converted data of the original sound and cell-automaton, and when the error of the minimum rule number which is already obtained is larger than the threshold, a next initial state is newly and arbitrarily compressed by repeating a similar process by using, for example, the binary data of the original sound at that time.
