Technology summary (In Japanese)本研究は,磁性イオンを含む磁性半導体のナノ構造を設計・製作し,次元性を十分に制御したナノ構造により発現される巨大磁気光学機能を創出することを目的とする。このためCd1-xMnxTe,Cd1-XMnxSe,Zn1-xMnxSeなどをベースとした磁性半導体の量子井戸,量子細線,量子ドットを設計し,分子線エピタキシー法と電子線ビーム超微細加工により作製し,原子レベルで制御した高い結晶性を持つ磁性半導体ナノ構造の作製を可能にした。1998年度には,これらのナノ構造について,電子状態の量子閉じ込め効果,巨大磁気光学効果,および超高速電子緩和現象に関する特色ある新しい知見を得ることができ,磁性半導体ナノ構造の磁気光学機能性を創出した。今後リソグラフィー法による量子ドット列,量子ドットと細線の結合などのさらに新しいナノ構造磁性半導体の創製を行い,“ナノ構造巨大磁気光学デバイス”の基礎と応用性を確立する。
